A bracket program that couldn't tolerate drift between lots
An aerospace supplier needed a family of structural brackets held to tight positional tolerances across a multi-year production contract, with full first-article and lot traceability documentation required for every shipment. Any drift in hole position or flatness between lots risked a failed incoming inspection at the customer's dock.
MachiniX built a dedicated fixture set for the bracket family, referencing the same datum scheme across every part number in the program. Combined with in-process CMM checks at defined intervals rather than only at first article, this caught tolerance drift before it reached a full lot rather than after.
The program also standardized on a single work order format across all bracket variants, so revision changes, material certs, and inspection records stayed consistent regardless of which part number was running that week.
01) Positional consistency
A shared datum scheme across the bracket family keeps hole position and flatness within tolerance from the first part of a lot to the last.
02) In-process inspection
CMM checks at defined intervals catch drift mid-lot, rather than relying solely on first-article approval to catch a problem three months later.
03) Full traceability
Material certs, first-article reports, and lot records follow a standardized format across every part number, so documentation never depends on which variant is running.
04) Contract-length reliability
The fixture and inspection scheme is built to hold across the full multi-year contract, not just the initial qualification run.
